Concanavalin A (Con A) injection via tail vein to induce an autoimmune hepatitis model

Background
Concanavalin A (Con A)-induced liver injury model is similar to liver injury caused by autoimmune liver disease and viral hepatitis. Its pathological changes and hepatocyte injury mechanisms are comparable to those of viral hepatitis, so it is regarded as a suitable model for studying human diseases such as viral hepatitis and autoimmune hepatitis. Con A can activate and proliferate T cells, and induce increased expression of Th1 cytokines including IL‑2, TNF‑α and IFN‑γ. High levels of pro‑inflammatory factors lead to intrahepatic inflammation and hepatocyte apoptosis, even resulting in acute liver failure, accompanied by abnormal liver function indicators such as AST and ALP.
Materials and methods
