Common bile duct ligation-induced obstructive jaundice model

Background
After common bile duct ligation (CBDL), serum bilirubin reaches its peak on day 7. The CBDL group exhibits a rapid elevation of bilirubin with a short modeling cycle and abrupt biliary obstruction. This model is characterized by stable pathological manifestations, simple operation, high success rate, rapid cholestasis and acute liver injury. It is suitable for short-term studies on acute obstructive jaundice, including hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury, biliary tract damage under acute obstruction, early inflammatory cell and complement responses, rapidly activated signaling pathways, biliary stent stenosis, and early epithelial reactions of the biliary tract.
Materials and methods
Male Wistar rats, weighing 250–300 g
Modeling method: The common bile duct was dissociated at the hepatic hilum and doubly ligated with surgical thread, followed by layered abdominal closure. In the sham operation group, the common bile duct was only dissociated without ligation. The obstructive jaundice model was successfully established 7 days after surgery.
