Concanavalin A-induced dry eye model
Concanavalin A-induced dry eye model
Background
Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, also known as dry eye disease, is characterized by abnormal quality and quantity of tears, which leads to unstable tear film, ocular surface tissue damage and persistent ocular discomforts. Concanavalin A can inhibit lacrimal gland secretion, trigger lacrimal gland inflammation and acinar atrophy. Intraglandular injection of a certain dose of concanavalin A solution into the lacrimal glands of mice can be used to establish a mouse dry eye model.
Materials and methods
BALB/c mice (mixed gender, adult)
Modeling method: A certain dose of concanavalin A solution was injected into unilateral lacrimal gland. A dry eye model was successfully established 3 days after injection.
Evaluation indexes: tear secretion measurement, corneal staining analysis, and HE staining.
