Form-deprivation myopia model
Form-deprivation myopia model
Background
Various methods are adopted to block the central visual pathway and prevent retinal imaging, so as to deprive experimental animals of form vision stimulation during early life. Under the effect of emmetropization, abnormal axial elongation occurs and ultimately leads to myopia.
This modeling method features simple operation, while the refractive state of the covered eye cannot be measured during the experiment. It presents a high modeling success rate. The timing of eyelid suture should be selected according to different experimental animals during modeling. This model is suitable for exploring the pathogenesis of myopia, especially form-deprivation myopia. Form-deprivation myopia is pathologically similar to secondary myopia caused by congenital cataract, severe congenital ptosis and corneal opacity in humans.
Materials and methods
SD rats (male, 21 days old)
Modeling method: The eyelids were sutured and closed for 8 weeks to successfully establish a myopia model.
Evaluation indexes: diopter and axial length measurement, HE staining
