Croton oil combined with formaldehyde-induced prostatitis model

Background
Intraprostatic injection of mixed inflammatory solution containing formaldehyde and croton oil can induce prostatitis in rats with typical histopathological lesions, and the inflammatory state can last for more than two weeks. Therefore, this model is suitable for the screening and therapeutic research of anti-inflammatory drugs related to prostatitis. This modeling method features simple operation, high success rate and strong practicability, and its disease progression is similar to that of benign prostatic hyperplasia in humans. However, strict aseptic surgical procedures must be performed during model establishment to prevent secondary infection. Meanwhile, the body weight of experimental rats should be no less than 200 g, so as to avoid adverse effects on modeling caused by undersized prostate and fragile prostatic capsule in young animals.
Materials and methods
SD rats (male, approximately 250 g)
Modeling method: The mixed inflammatory solution of formaldehyde and croton oil was injected into the prostate. The prostatitis model was successfully established after 24 hours.
Evaluation index: HE staining
Test and verify

HE staining of prostate tissue
