Establishment of a pterygium model by subconjunctival injection of fibroblasts
Establishment of a pterygium model by subconjunctival injection of fibroblasts
Background
Pterygium is a benign proliferative tissue with abnormal vascularization on the ocular surface, which usually causes ocular discomfort and visual impairment; in severe cases, even ocular movement is severely restricted. It has been reported that neoplasia of limbal stem cells caused by high-intensity or long-term exposure to ultraviolet light or viral infection is one of the most important factors in the development of pterygium. Subconjunctival injection of mouse fibroblasts in rabbits can simulate the pathogenesis of pterygium, and vascular proliferation extending around the injection site will occur within 3-7 days.
Materials and methods
New Zealand white rabbits (either sex, 2.5-3 kg)
Modeling method: Subconjunctival injection of mouse fibroblasts in the eye to establish a pterygium model.
