Sodium hydroxide-induced corneal alkali injury model
Sodium hydroxide-induced corneal alkali injury model
Background
Alkali burn is a common type of ocular chemical burn.
Due to the strong tissue penetration and destructive effects of alkaline substances, it often causes complications such as corneal ulceration, perforation, neovascularization and symblepharon, severely affecting visual function.
Therefore, animal models of corneal alkali burn are established to facilitate better research and treatment.
Materials and methods
SD rats (male, 8–10 weeks old)
Modeling method: A circular filter paper soaked in NaOH solution was applied to the center of the rat cornea to establish a corneal alkali burn model.
Evaluation indicators: corneal opacity score, fluorescein sodium staining, HE staining
