Type 1 diabetic foot model induced by STZ, vascular ligation combined with lower extremity scald
Type 1 diabetic foot model induced by STZ, vascular ligation combined with lower extremity scald
Background
Type 1 diabetes mellitus model is established by intraperitoneal injection of STZ, followed by combined scald injury via vascular excision, ligation or compression to complete modeling.
The femoral artery and femoral vein are the main trunks of lower extremity blood circulation; their ligation results in severe lower extremity ischemia and necrosis.
Meanwhile, diabetic patients present with distal limb numbness due to peripheral neuropathy and other conditions, leading to skin scalds, frostbite and subsequent ulcers owing to insensitivity to temperature.
Multifactorial intervention enables the model to more closely resemble the pathogenesis of diabetic foot.
Materials and methods
Lewis rats (male, 6–8 weeks old)
Modeling method: A type 1 diabetes mellitus model was established by intraperitoneal injection of STZ, followed by ligation of the femoral artery and vein combined with lower extremity skin scald, successfully establishing a type 1 diabetic foot model.
Evaluation indicators: lower extremity blood flow measurement, HE staining
