Type 2 diabetic foot model induced by STZ combined with high-fat diet and lower extremity scald
Type 2 diabetic foot model induced by STZ combined with high-fat diet and lower extremity scald
Background
Intraperitoneal injection of STZ combined with high-fat diet feeding is the most widely used method for establishing type 2 diabetes mellitus models. On this basis, a diabetic foot model can be constructed using scald injury.
Diabetic patients develop numbness of the distal extremities due to peripheral neuropathy and other complications, leading to skin scalds, frostbite and subsequent ulcers owing to insensitivity to temperature. The model established by this method is suitable for studies related to diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Materials and methods
Wistar rats (male, 250–280 g)
Modeling method: After establishing a type 2 diabetes mellitus model by high-fat feeding combined with intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ), a copper probe heated in boiling water was applied to the foot to induce a deep second-degree scald, successfully establishing a type 2 diabetic foot model.
Evaluation indicators: blood glucose measurement, wound area calculation, HE staining
